From my notes. On 23 October 2026 I opened the official game page, the Steam listing for app 4435490, and Activision's editions article side by side. Steam showed a 115 GB install and a $69.99 standard edition. The editions article matched that price and listed Vault at $99.99. I did not find a PS4 or Xbox One build.
What launched today
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4, developed by Infinity Ward and published by Activision, unlocked on 23 October 2026 at local midnight (00:00 ET in the United States). Platforms are PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Windows (Steam, Battle.net and the Xbox app on PC) and Nintendo Switch 2.
There is no PlayStation 4, Xbox One, original Switch or macOS version. The three modes are a single-player campaign, multiplayer, and DMZ. This game does not include a Zombies mode. See the Zombies answer and the platform matrix.
Price and where to start
Standard edition is $69.99 and Vault edition is $99.99 in the US store listings checked today. Vault adds operator packs, a signature weapon collection, one season of BlackCell, tier skips, CP, a DMZ deployment bonus, the Hunter Killer skin, Gilded Pearl camo and the Inner Circuit M4. Regional prices differ.
Xbox Game Pass does not include the game on launch day. Activision's 23 October intel post says it joins in Holiday 2027. The buy page lists only storefronts named by Activision: where to buy, edition comparison, Game Pass.
Campaign, DMZ and multiplayer
The campaign follows Park Hyun-Jun during an invasion of the fictional Korean city Hajin, and Captain Price on a separate hunt. Game8 lists 16 missions. Reported clear times span about 6 to 10 hours for the story and 12 to 14 hours for a fuller clear. Those are outlet figures, not an official timer.
DMZ is a PvPvE extraction mode on the Hajin map for squads of up to three, with 20 squads in a match. Multiplayer launches with 12 core 6v6 maps plus Ground War, Gunfight and Kill Block. Ranked is not in the launch build. Read the campaign guide, DMZ and the map list.
